Mark Wasinger
Player Profile

Old Dominion University's first Division I All-American in baseball, Mark Wasinger helped lead ODU to its first NCAA Division I regional bid in 1982. That season Wasinger batted a hefty .412. He was the sixth Monarch player to ever bat over 400 in the school's history.

Wasinger set five season and career records at Old Dominion. He held such records as most hits in a season (78), most career hits (197) and career homers (24). In 1981 and 1982, Wasinger led the Monarchs to back-to-back ECAC South finals. He also knocked in three runs in ODU's State championship victory over Virginia in 1980.

Wasinger led the team in homers and 1980 and 1981, and runs batted in in 1980 and 1982. He was named the 1979 ECAC-South Rookie-of-the-Year as a freshman. He was a two-time ECAC-South All-Conference selection, and in 1982 was selected as a first team All-American by the College Coaches Association and the SPORTING NEWS. He was drafted in 1982 by the San Diego Padres in the third round. In his three seasons at ODU, the Monarchs were 92-56-2.

Wasinger returned to ODU in 1986 and received his degree in recreation and leisure services. Besides playing for San Diego, Wasinger has played for San Francisco, the Cleveland Indians and is now in the New York Yankees organization.
