Patrick Downey, a three-time All-American sailor, was instrumental
in Old Dominion's third place finish in the 1995 ICYRA Team Race
National Championships and eighth place finish at the ICYRA Dinghy
National Championships. As a sophomore, Downey won the 1993
ICYRA Sloop North American Championships in Honolulu, HI.
Downey, a two-time team MVP was the Monarchs co-ed team captain
as a senior. In both 1993 and 1994, he led Old Dominion to four
first place regatta finishes and four second place finishes.
Since graduating,Downey competed in the 2000 U.S. Olympic trails
in the windsurfing class. He is currently teaching and coaching
sailing with the Coconut Grove junior racing team and five of
his sailors are members of the U.S. Junior National Sailing
squad. Downey also is the sailing coch at Ransom Everglades high
school. He graduated in 1996 from Old Dominion with a degree in
english.
